NBA: Where friendly tap on the butt can go wrong

Recently there was a change in the rules of giving technical fouls. It was said to be that referee's will now be more strict when players plead their case regarding fouls and such. The changes are as follows:

  • Players making aggressive gestures, such as air punches, anywhere on the court.
  • Demonstrative disagreement, such as when a player incredulously raises his hands, or smacks his own arm to demonstrate how he was fouled.
  • Running directly at an official to complain about a call.
  • Excessive inquiries about a call, even in a civilized tone.
There are others but thats basically the gist of it. The pre-season game between the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors basically shows how strict ref's can be now. Reggie Evans and Grant Hill were ejected from the game during the 3rd quarter because of a tap on the ass.

Seriously? Thats what athletes do, it was a friendly athlete tap on the ass, its basically saying "Oh hey it's cool" . Apparently the referee did not take it that way and ejected the 2 players out of the game. This is just really ridiculous and too strict. I mean come on, the guys were just showing sportsmanship, it's not like they were about to go Bruce Lee on each other. The next thing you know, players on the court aren't even allowed to talk to each other or worse, they can't even look each other in the eye.

Come on ref's it's the pre-season let the guys have a little fun, if you're going to throw somebody out of game it should be at least be something as indecent as this and not some normal pat on the butt
