Hollingers NBA power rankings week 3

Another week, another Hollingers NBA power rankings.

Here I talk about the top 5:

1. New Orleans Hornets: 1 word to describe this team, undefeated. Yup you heard me, they are the only remaining team that hasn't lost. 8-0, #1 in the western conference right now and #1 in their division. To be honest it's really not surprising since Chris Paul, arguably the best point guard in the NBA is back in his All Star form and making an early buzz for MVP.

2. Miami Heat: Standing at 6-4, they suffered their very first 2 game losing streak. First one was against the Utah Jazz. That game was "on paper" theirs to take. They had 40+ FT attempts to the Jazz's 20+ but apparently Utah Jazz Paul Millsap went NBA Jam on them and finished with a career-high 46 pts. Second loss was against the green leprechauns (Boston Celtics). The recipe to beating this team? A crazy Point Guards ( Rajon Rondo / Deron Williams / Chris Paul) and forwards to compliment the crazy PG's. For sure though that we know the Miami Heat will not lose in a blow out.

3. Boston Celtics: If the Miami Heat got their "Big 3", The Boston Celtics got their "Big 4". Rajon Rondo is improving, Kevin Garnett is 100% not to mention he's still being the KG that we all love, Paul Pierce doing his thing, flopping and tackling people. Ray Allen still got the sexiest jumper in the league and an improved bench that consists of Jermaine O'Neil and Shaquille O'Neil. So I can't really doubt why they're 8-2 as of week 3. Just don't make Rondo take ridiculous clutch 3's

4. Los Angeles Lakers: Well the defending champs is 4th on Hollingers power rankings. They dropped 2 spots from last week after dropping 2 straight games. Theres not much to say besides their defense sucks these past few games. Offense may not be a problem but defensively, the defending champs are looking like the Golden State Warriors. Although, they are still the defending champs so it would be overreaction from fans to be all sensitive about this 2 straight loses.

5. Denver Nuggets: Even with the "Melo Drama" looming around, the Denver Nuggets still is a good team believe or not. Carmelo Anthony is still playing like an all star despite his uncertain future with the team. As good as they are, they got torched for 54 3rd quarter points by the Indiana Pacers who went 20-21 FG

My take on Hollingers Power Rankings week 2

Hollingers power rankings

Top 4 teams:

1. Miami Heat: Heat is apparently #1 despite the disappearance of Chris Bosh, and the injured Mike Miller. It's okay though, I heard through a grape vine that James Jones will save the day.

2. Los Angeles Lakers: Laker fans are probably rioting, sending hate mails and death threats to hollinger right now. So how about them Clippers?

3. Orlando Magic: Every game, Stan Van Gundy spins his wheel of fortune to get his starting 5 and his rotation players for the game. Is it exciting? YES! We get to see everybody play, unless your name is Daniel Orton... poor fella

4. New Orlean Hornets: Them Hornets are more deserving to get #1 than the Miami Heat. I mean Chris Paul is suppose to be throwing away games because of off season unhappiness right? RIGHT?! Nope, apparently they have yet to lose. Playing 3 away games (Spurs, Bucks, Rockets) and beating Miami Heat in style using Okafor(LOL) as the main offensive weapon. Not to mention they don't have a star studded cast besides Chris Paul and David West. Who would've known Marco Bellineli can play like he's playing now. Trevor Ariza still tries to make his own shot even though we all know that's not his game. Okafor is well, he's being Okafor besides that one heat game where he scored 26 pts and grabbed 13 rebounds, and not to mention he went 12-13 FG.

NBA: Where friendly tap on the butt can go wrong

Recently there was a change in the rules of giving technical fouls. It was said to be that referee's will now be more strict when players plead their case regarding fouls and such. The changes are as follows:

  • Players making aggressive gestures, such as air punches, anywhere on the court.
  • Demonstrative disagreement, such as when a player incredulously raises his hands, or smacks his own arm to demonstrate how he was fouled.
  • Running directly at an official to complain about a call.
  • Excessive inquiries about a call, even in a civilized tone.
There are others but thats basically the gist of it. The pre-season game between the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors basically shows how strict ref's can be now. Reggie Evans and Grant Hill were ejected from the game during the 3rd quarter because of a tap on the ass.

Seriously? Thats what athletes do, it was a friendly athlete tap on the ass, its basically saying "Oh hey it's cool" . Apparently the referee did not take it that way and ejected the 2 players out of the game. This is just really ridiculous and too strict. I mean come on, the guys were just showing sportsmanship, it's not like they were about to go Bruce Lee on each other. The next thing you know, players on the court aren't even allowed to talk to each other or worse, they can't even look each other in the eye.

Come on ref's it's the pre-season let the guys have a little fun, if you're going to throw somebody out of game it should be at least be something as indecent as this and not some normal pat on the butt

Dwight is more of a Michaelangelo than Donatello

Very very informative video. Dwight Howard had a 1 week session with The Dream Hakeem Olajuwon during the offseason.. What do I expect from this? Well a more polished post game from Dwight. More finesse and less usage of strength.

Anyways enjoy the video!

Video: Once upon a time in London

Lakers Lamar Odom trampled on SuperCoolBeas aka Michael Beasly. Probably the only time he wasn't a beast in the game.

In other news? Darko blocked Derek Fishers Corner 3 LOL!!!

Video Credits: Thats to Phillip Barnett of Forum Blue and Gold for sharing the video.
